Domestic Violence Awareness Month Proclaimed,
Manitoba's First Men's Resource Centre Opened
In
conjunction with the proclamation of Domestic Awareness Month in
November 2001, the Men's Resource Centre celebrated its grand opening
with an open house/press conference at Elizabeth Hill Counselling
Centre.

ribbon-cutting ceremony celebrated the opening of Men's Resource
Centre as part of the province's increased support for new and existing
programs specifically tailored to help men, women and children caught
up in cycle of family violence.

Sale, Minister of Family Services and Housing, and Diane McGifford,
Minister of Advanced Education and Minister Responsible for the
Status of Women, were both present to announce the Manitoba government's
$1.1 million investment in a multi-faceted effort to prevent domestic
violence and help people affected by family violence to rebuild
their lives.

Fuchs, Dean of Social Work, responded to the announcement on behalf
of the University of Manitoba, and Suhad Bisharat, Chair of the
Family Violence Consortium, spoke on behalf of the community. The
event, which included tours of the new center, was well-attended
by community and faculty members. Thanks to all who attended and
welcomed the MRC!
