OPEN HOUSE - 2001
Description
of the Men's Resource Centre
Due to social and economic changes in recent decades, men have come
to question the expectations and assumptions about men. As a result,
men are increasingly willing to access supportive therapeutic services
than any time previously. The Men's Resource Centre assists men
who are facing situational and developmental stress by providing
a range of service to meet the diverse needs of men.
It
has been common for men to make effort to achieve "independence"
and "self-reliance", often at the expense of important
relationships with friends, family, and other community members.
The Men's Resource Centre ackowledges that we live in a world in
which we mutually depend on others for care and nurtuning. The Men's
Resource Centre believes that it is important that men cope with
stress in a manner that is also responsive to the needs of others;
our approach remembers that relationships are important to men and
that any actions undertaken will have an impact on men's partners,
children and families.
The
Men's Resource Centre strives to acknowledge, bring attention to
and challenge injustices, whether they occur in a personal or social
context. The Men's Resource Centre acknowledges that men both perpetuate
and bear consequences from these injustices, and believes that men
play an important role in making this a fairer world for everybody
to live in.
